As we know, Launch X431 Pro5 SmartLink (new) can support BMW & Benz online programming like X431 Pro5 Smartbox (old). Let’s see what you can do with this function and how to set (configure) it if there is no related menu.

What can you do with Launch X431 PRO 5 BMW & Benz Online Programming function?
X431 PRO5 diagnostic tool allows you to directly download OEM programming software and program data into vehicle ECUs (for BMW & Mercedes-Benz series). It takes better care of all the situations that need ECU programming and achieves dual programming (Automatic + Manual) modes to save failed programming. Whenever you need it, it will be there.
l Replace New Blank Modules:
Some parts or modules physically need to be replaced. X431 PRO5 scanner can help you program adaptive data to make the new modules communicate with other modules.
l Repair ECU with Data Loss:
Suit for insufficient car battery voltage resulting in module data loss
l Upgrade ECU Software Version:
Require upgrade to fix bugs in module software and get more new functions.
l Reprogramming Operation (Exclusive!):
Restore original software data when module programming is failed.
PART TWO
How to set (configure) X-431 Pro5 online programming function for BMW and Benz?
Generally, Launch X431 Pro5 with SmartLink 2.0 and X431 Pro5 with Smartbox 3.0 have BMW & Benz online programming menu. If your device lost this menu, please set it with the method below.
1. Connect X431 Pro5 diagnostic scanner and a computer via a USB cable, and select Media device (MTP) as the USB connection method
2. Enter the computer and find the file named “StdCfg.ini.”
Directory path: i.e. Lenovo TAB M10 FHD Rel\Internal shared storage\cnlaunch\X431Pro5\assets
3. Open and edit “StdCfg.ini” with a text editor, find two fields “OnlineFlash=0” and “Flash=0”, the default value is 0, indicating that the diagnostic software does not support online programming, click the corresponding field, change the value to 1, and save.
l Find OnlineFlash and Flash
l Change OnlineFlash=0 to OnlineFlash=1
l Change Flash=0 to Flash=1
4. After saving successfully, the corresponding value will change to 1, as circled in the figure below. Then you can use the online programming function on Launch X-431 Pro5 diagnostic tool normally.
Note: Do not change the original number of lines, and do not change other contents.
Save it after modifying the value.
What you need to know:
Currently, Spain, Portugal, and Canada these areas are restricted from using the Benz/BMW online programming feature.
Devices in other regions can be set according to the above method for online programming.
