In detail…
Step 1: Read the original Benz gearbox data by Bench
Enter “vgs4” to select the Mercedes FBS4 VGS4-500-NAG2 gearbox.
Check the Direct Connection Wiring Diagram
Read and follow the on-screen instructions, then click “Confirm” to proceed.
Choose the Wiring Method
The wiring diagram provides two modes: BENCH and BOOT.
Use BENCH mode to read data from the original car’s gearbox (TCU) computer.
For wiping and personalizing an external second-hand gearbox computer, connect both BENCH and BOOT modes simultaneously.
- Read TCU Information
After completing the connections, click “Read TCU Information” to retrieve data from the gearbox computer.
- Read EEPROM Data
Click “Read EEPROM Data (BENCH)” to extract the EEPROM data.
If BENCH mode fails, switch to BOOT mode and retry the process.
Step 2: Erase the external gearbox by both Bench and Boot
After reading the original vehicle’s ECU data, connect the Launch X431 ECU Programmer to the external ECU (gearbox) computer. Ensure both BENCH and BOOT modes are connected simultaneously.
Click “Erase” to clear the data on the external ECU.
Step 3: Personalize and select original car EEPROM data to write into the new gearbox
Click “Personalization” and select the original car’s EEPROM data to write into the external ECU.
Once personalization is complete, click “OK” to confirm.
Step 4: Install the gearbox back into the vehicle for programming and coding
Click “Read TCU Information” again to confirm that the ECU data has been successfully erased and updated by Launch X431 ECU & TCU Programmer.
Finally, install the ECU (gearbox) back into the vehicle.
Complete the programming and coding process as required to finalize the setup.
