Many Launch X431 tools incl. X431 V, X431 V+, X431 PAD V/PAD VII, etc have the [VIN Registration] special function to read and write VIN. VIN Registration is an operation to register VIN in ECM (Engine Control Module). It must be performed each time ECM is replaced. Accurate VIN registered in ECM may be required for Inspection & Maintenance (I/M).
For example:
2017 Nissan XTrail T32 new ECM VIN registration by Launch X431 PAD V
Operation guide:
Connect X431 Pad5 and the Nissan car
Go to the [Local diagnosis] function on the main menu
Select NISSAN>> NISSAN Diagnostic software (i.e. V44.76)>> Full system diagnosis>> The vehicle with 16PIN>> System Selection>> Engine>> ECM (Engine Control Module)
Check the ECM state, it is equipped
Select Special Function>> VIN Registration
Confirm the ignition switch is on and the engine is stopped.
Hold these conditions during the procedure.
There are three options on the VIN Registration page: VIN/CHASSIS, VIN READ and VIN WRITE.
Click [VIN READ]
Input the VIN of the vehicle. Refer to S/M for the location of the identification plate
Then click “OK” and the VIN READ line shows the VIN value
Click [VIN WRITE]
Input the VIN once again, then click “OK” and the VIN WRITE line shows the VIN value
Click “Start”
Command succeed
Turn the ignition switch off for 10 sec then the ignition switch on to confirm no DTC
Double-check:
Back to the VIN Registration interface
The VIN value appears on the VIN/CHASSIS line, which means the VIN number has already been registered on X-431 PAD V.
